Meet City Blogger of the Month: Caroline Topperman

BloggersMag (b|m) team is very excited to introduce you to our new City Blogger, Fashion Accessories Blogger, Caroline Topperman of Style on the Side. Caroline has an amazing eye for accessories and enjoys from Vancouver, BC, Canada. She enjoys traveling and discovering new places, like her great eye for beauty products. And get this: she speaks three languages! Wow, we love this city blogger and we’re pretty sure you will too! Tell us what you think in the comments!

“I admire strong individuals who have many accomplishments and I think that she’s beautiful!”

Caroline Topperman

Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Do you speak any languages?
English, Polish, and French fluently.

Top  3 places you’ve traveled to?
Paris (of course), Spain, (I have a tie here: Figueras because that’s where Dali was born and Cordoba just because I loved it), and Morocco.

BM: Tell our followers what you blog about

CT: Mostly accessories (including home accessories) but I also love to include what I call Lifestyle posts. These might be coffee shop reviews, store reviews or really they can be about anything that I find wonderful and am dying to share with the world.

BM: What inspires your blog posts?

CT: My ideas come to me almost everywhere [I go], which is why I always carry around my notebook and camera.  My blog comes together on my trusty couch with my feet up on my coffee table.

BM: Why do you blog?

CT: I started [blogging] because I needed a creative outlet. My mom wanted me to be a journalist; instead I went to film school and got a degree in screenwriting. Then I abandoned writing for many years. After taking a social media course I finally found my voice and decided that I really wanted to return to this first love of combining images and words. After that everything just fell into place.

BM: When did you start blogging?

CT: It has actually been less than a year. My blog officially started sometime in June 2012 but it really came together in September so I’m using that as my official start date.

BM: Who is your Celeb Style Crush, why?

CT: This one is hard because I don’t really have one. I’ve never actually been one to obsess about a ‘personality’. There are many people I admire. When I was still dancing, Karen Kain would have definitely been my pick. Now I really love Isabella Rossellini. I admire strong individuals who have many accomplishments and I think that she’s beautiful!

BM: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

CT: I would love to fly. When I was little I used to have these dreams where I would jump off a mountain and just soar through the sky, I’d love to truly experience that feeling.

BM: What is your closet staple?

CT: A black v-neck t-shirt. I can wear it with everything and dress it up or down as needed.

BM: What is your favorite beauty product?

CT: My favorite… really? I don’t know if I can answer that. Okay I’m going to have to cheat on this answer just a little bit. The first thing that comes to mind is a great lipstick: red in winter, pink in summer.  Recently, however, I’ve been using Caudalie Beauty Elixir first thing in the morning and it has become something I look forward to everyday. It’s so refreshing and really wakes me up. I also find that my skin responds to it really well.

BM: If you were stuck on an island and you had to keep three things with you, what would you have and why?

CT: Assuming that I have fresh water and access to food….A journal and pen to record my experiences (maybe I’ll be the next Robinson Crusoe), some sunscreen, and my iPod with a solar panel as I always need some great music around.

BM: What are your favorite style tips?

CT: First, keep it simple.  Classic is always best but definitely make it your own. Find that special accessory you absolutely love, it will make any outfit look that much more special.

Second, don’t chase every single new trend. Instead, be selective and figure out what really suits you and your body. Take your time picking out the pieces (be it clothing or accessories) that you know will last.

Thank you Caroline for being such a great sport and allowing us to get to know you, we thoroughly enjoyed having you as our City Blogger!

Meet City Blogger of the Month: Zahra Sandberg

BloggersMag (b|m) team is very excited to introduce you to our City Blogger, Style Blogger, Zahra Sandberg of Love Zahra. Zahra is a smart, talented, and amazing design and style blogger from Chicago, Illinois. With a love for A-line skirts and statement jewelry, Zahra talks to us about her inspirations, her celeb style crushes (yes, she has more than one!), and most importantly, some very coveted style tips. (You’re welcome!)

DSC_0174 Who
I am Zahra Sandberg

Chicago, IL (USA)

BM: what do you blog about?
ZS: I am a Style blogger [and] I blog about my interest in fashion and interior design. I post outfit ideas and interior design projects. As I am a budding stylist and interior designer, I occasionally spotlight my work for clients as well.

BM: Why did you start blogging, what was your inspiration?
ZS: Most of my friends and family don’t share my love for fashion and design. My friends are gorgeous and dress impossibly well, but they would rather discuss politics and current events than what they are wearing. Also, my full-time job (other than blogging, which also tends to be full-time) is in Business Development in the Manufacturing Industry. I found I needed a place to channel my creativity and share my love of style with other like-minded individuals, and that is how the blog was born!

BM: What has the experience been like for you?
ZS: It has been such a great experience so far, there is something magical about a group of people who are truly passionate about their blogs and take time out to do it. It really does take a lot of time and effort without a whole lot of ROI (return on investment). Bloggers don’t get paid a lot, if any at all, so it is really empowering and reassuring to know that they are doing it out of love.

BM: When did you start blogging?
ZS: Technically I started in 2010, that is when I made my “about me” page. Then I got pregnant…and it took another two years before I came back full force in the summer of 2012.

BM: Who is your Celeb Style Crush, why?
ZS: Miranda Kerr is currently on the top of my list. She has an effortless style that is classic and feminine. I switch between her and Olivia Palermo often for the top spot.

BM: If you could have a super power, what would it be?
ZS: Easy, the ability to be in more than one place at once – so I can be at work, home with my husband and baby, and blogging at the same time.

BM: What is your closet staple?
ZS: An A-line skirt paired with a silk blouse and a pair of sky-high heels is my idea of the perfect outfit.

BM: What is your favorite beauty product?
ZS: I have so many! If I had to pick one, I’d say my recent discovery of an orange hued makeup primer. It really makes my skin look fresh even when I’ve had little sleep. Orange primer is great for darker skin tones.

Be confident in yourself and it will shine through no matter what you are wearing!

BM: If you were stuck on an island and you had to keep three things with you, what would you have and why?
ZS: If it is material things only, I’d say my iPad (hopefully this island has a 4G network), my yoga mat to keep myself balanced and centered, and my Nikon D3100 camera to document the experience so I could blog about it later! I’ve really gotten into photography since I started blogging. I love capturing candid moments!

BM: Could you kindly share your favorite fashion and style tips?

  1. Find a silhouette that you love, that flatters you best, and repeat it in different colors and materials and you will never run out of outfit ideas. For example, I love a blazer, skinny jeans and a t-shirt – I can dress it up by wearing a printed blazer, leather leggings, and bright high heels, or dress it down with a boyfriend blazer with distressed denim and flats.
  2. Don’t buy things just because of the brand name. A friend of mine who is a big wig in marketing for a huge corporation told me some insider secrets about how prices are determined by some top brands. Check for quality of the material, the fit, and fabric before spending double or more on a bag or shoes.
  3. Take pictures of yourself! You will notice the colors that compliment you best and more importantly, what doesn’t work for you. One of my styling clients told me she did it and realized her outfit really needed a statement necklace. She was very hesitant to take pictures at first, but now she thanks me!
  4. Most important – be confident in yourself and it will shine through no matter what you are wearing!

Backstage Makeup Looks From Fashion Week! Beauty Trends For Fall 2013…

Fashion Trend: the Varsity Jacket Makes a Comeback

By Dana Cristina Malaescu
Fashion Editor at Fashion Tag

When it comes to fashion trends, one thing is certain: nothing will ever be too new or too old. It’s all a continuous cycle and a reinvention of styles. So, if you are thinking of throwing a few horrible items out of your closet, think again! You may never know when they are going to be the biggest fashion hit.
2013 is just about that – reinventing some of those ’90’s trends and pulling off the funkiest looks. And making a comeback this year is the Varsity jacket, aka, “Letterman jacket”.

all-black-varsity-jacket-pitrest black-white-varsity-jacket Rihanna Catches A Flight Out of London's Heathrow Airport fashion-trend-varsity-jacket-pintrest kim-kardashian-varsity-jacket-via-pintrest pintrest-varsity-jacket pintrest red-varsity-jacket-pintrest red-varsity-jacket-style-pintrest street-style-varsity-jacket-pintrest taylor-swift-pintrest varisty-jacket-style-pintrest varsity-jacket-and-skirt-via-pintrest varsity-jacket-pintrest-1 varsity-jacket-prints-pintrest varsity-jacket-via-pintrest-theblondesalad varsity-style-jacket-pintrest varsity-style-jackets-pintrest

For so many high school and college students, the varsity jacket is traditionally a representation of pride and support for their schools. The jacket became a huge hit when Michael Jackson rocked it on and off stage back in the ‘80s. Now it’s re-living its glory days on runways and catwalks for Spring/Summer 2013/14 collections. The sporty, yet chic style of the varsity jacket was a huge success with Rag & Bone, Altuzarra, and Alexander Wang. Not to mention the number of celebrities wearing this comfy cool jacket: Rihanna (sporty urban style), Kim Kardashian (glam sexy urban) Taylor Swift (college sporty chic).

How to wear the varsity jacket look

To avoid looking ridiculous, we have curated some styling tips / ideas for your personal style inspiration.

-Sporty chic
The jacket may seem plain, sporty, and quite boyish, yet it is one of the most versatile piece you can have in your closet. Pairing it with simple sporty outfits (jeans, shorts, converse, ballet pumps, T-shirts, sweaters, baseball caps) can give you that boyish sporty chic style look.

For extra edgy look, pile on jewelry, or go for studded jackets, and if you’d like to give it a more girly vibe, play up your lips (red lips look amazing with this jacket giving it an urban touch; think Rihanna) or let your hair loose.

-Smart edgy for office
For a super smart edgy look, opt for pencil skirts, blouses or T-shirts, statement necklaces, super sexy heels and over-the-shoulders varsity jacket. For a more casual sophisticated look, switch the skirt with skinny trousers or boyfriend jeans. Shorts or mini skirts are amazing if you are aiming for sexy, and maxi skirts or dresses look feminine with this jacket. For extra edge, add a baseball cap and statement accessories. And remember… to get this chic sophisticated sporty look always go for heels!

Styling Tips

  • Have fun with your look and don’t take it too seriously
  • Make it your own… meaning wear colors / styles that works best for your figure
  • Own your look; be confident in your choices

We’ve all seen the fashion editors, photographers, bloggers, and stylists rocking the varsity jacket with heels. And loved it! So do just the same, just don’t forget your fantastic bag or over-sized clutch to complete your look.

Whether you love it or not the varsity jacket is a trend to try once and, if you ask me, a staple piece to consider for spring. It’s fun, cool, versatile, cozy, and super comfortable.

Will you ditch your leather jackets for a while and be a team player in that old school nostalgic varsity jacket? Are you game or not?

The Leather Skirt: How to Glam up Your Style

By Dana, Fashion Editor

If we were to look back at some of 2012 Fall’s biggest trends, that I reckon will stretch all throughout next season’s Spring & Summer, than the Leather Skirt is one item to definitely look out for. If you have it, stick to it and if not… buy it and play up your glamorous super-hot persona in it. If a few years ago leather screamed S&M and was quite the fashion risqué (nobody wanted to look like cheap hookers so they pretty much avoided the texture, well unless… you were super edgy, adventurous and confident to rock such a look, in which case kudos to you!), today every single designer has a few items in their collection. Remember 2012/2013 Fall & Winter Fashion Week? And forget black leather. I mean who ever said we had to settle for gloomy shades? It’s in with green, blues, reds, burgundy. Sure if you want to stick to basics, it’s fine… as long as you keep it leathery!

What this style does is actually empower us, as women, as designers & celebs gave us a free pass a rocking the leather skirt everywhere. No, no… now don’t jump to conclusions and think it’s not for you, just because you are a sporty girl or au contraire prefer the smart looks. The leather skirt can be styled in millions of ways, depending on its design, cut, color and of course… your taste. One of my favorite looks of the leather skirt is the office look – Smart meets Sophisticated. A pencil over-the-knee (or even knee-length) black leather skirt will look stunning with heels. Pair it with a casual top to tone down the look or a super smart one to keep it extra professional. A blazer, jewelry & a fab bag will complete the look. I love how pencil leather skirts look with plain T-shirts or tucked in jersey tops.

If however you love to show off those legs, the mini leather skirt is the answer. Tight or pleated, A-line or super large, it will look amazing with jumpers, denim shirts and a cozy coat. Opt for heels if you’re going for a sexy look or for flat boots, converse, or ballet pumps for a more laid back take on the style. I love how it looks with a jumper, parka & flat boots. For a more sophisticated look, I’d go for a short slim leather skirt with a knitted top and ankle boots. And remember… for a more fun take on this trend choose the colored leather skirts or be adventurous on designs: maxi leather skirts, over-sized & funky styles.

What I love about a leather skirt is that it can dress up any outfit you have and make any old T-shirt or sweater look like a million bucks. Not to mention that it will get you out of any fashion trouble: sophisticated office look, dinner out, dates, parties. And… you can wear it all year long (add tights in winter and switch to sandals in summer). Quite the fashion investment isn’t it.

How would you rock your pencil leather skirt?

Cozy, Confident, And Fashionable Trends For Fall

Guest blog post from Anya Sarre, Celebrity Stylist at ShoeDazzle.com.

As the weather cools, women flock to the stores and newsstands to catch a glimpse at this season’s most-desired trends. Whether you enjoy classic looks, patterns and shapes or love to dazzle and sparkle in flashy pieces, this fall’s hottest trends offer something for everyone.

Full-Skirt Dresses

The peplum-waist dress has been a huge trend for the last couple of years. While it will still be a go-to look for professional, classic women everywhere heading into fall, this style has a new competitor on the horizon. The full-skirted dress is an exaggerated A-line dress, and it is popping up on the red carpet in record numbers this season. The top of a full-skirt dress is fitted and sometimes belted. It is often adorned with ladylike, peter-pan collars and jewels. The dress begins its exaggerated flare shape at the waist, and it typically hits at or just above the knee. Full-skirt dresses feature bold colors, color blocking and glamorous patterns this season. Pair it with a cropped cardigan and a pair of ballet flats or pumps for a spotlight-stealing look. For cold fall /winter night out, just pair these dresses with tights or black stockings for sexy, cozy look!

Patterned Ankle Pants

Dizzying, fun patterns and bold designs are typically reserved for blouses or dresses. This season, the classic ankle pant gets a makeover thanks to bold prints and vibrant colors. Ankle pants with tapestry prints are being seen paired with slouchy ankle boots and boxy silk tops. Polka dots and hounds tooth prints are always classic, recognizable designs. Pair a classic polka dot or hounds tooth print pant with a ballet flat, a lace-trim tank top and a long cocoon-style cardigan for a look that will take you from day into night.

Chunky & Bold Knit Sweaters

Casual women everywhere are scooping up the chunky and bold sweaters in record numbers this season. Plush cashmere, nylon and wool sweaters are being combined with rabbit hair and other luxuriously soft materials that feel as cozy and comfortable as they look. Classic crew-neck styles, cable knit details and boxy shapes are all the rage this fall. Pair them with a pair of skinny jeans and tall-shaft boots for a balanced look. These sweaters also layer beautifully over tank tops in contrast colors and button-up Oxford shirts.

This season’s hottest trends will surely liven up the dreary cold months thanks in part to the various colors, textures, dimensions and bold patterns featured on this season’s hottest silhouettes for apparel, accessories and shoes.

2012 Fall Trend: Oversize Look

by Dana Cristina

Ladies who ever said size does not matter couldn’t be more wrong! This autumn, fashion is all about one size: Oversize! Apparently, the one rule that never seemed to age in fashion (”dress according to your size”) is, well, out of style in 2012 Autumn/Winter trends. And you can also put aside your mothers’ and grandmothers’ advice of always wearing clothes that fit!

From coats to jumpers to cardigans to trousers, fashion is going up one too many sizes. Whether it’s the cold season requiring more layering or just a fashion craze, Fall 2012 will have women all bundled up in cocoon coats, sweaters with puffy sleeves, huge & eccentric collars or big skirts & dresses. It’s a bit of ‘90s Kate Moss meets ‘70s Farrah Fawcett: sexy slouchy shoulders, high waist large trousers, big blouses, huge cardigans, oversized coats, jackets or shirts! And you can go either way: towards grunge style (which alone is a big trend this season as well) or a more classic elegant one.

Starting up as a street trend, pretty much ignored for years, the oversized style has finally caught up with the fashion designers in their 2012 Fall/Winter collections. The runways were flooded with big coats, trousers, skirts, tops in so many looks, styles and designs that we feel it’s never been this good! Jil Sander honored the classic elegant woman in big & beautiful coats in his best collection so far. Gucci went for opulent drama in sexy big trousers.

Sportmax, Chloe, Balenciaga, Moschino all chose and praised the oversize this season. Though to some it may come across as an uninspired trend, hiding away the woman’s body – we should nonetheless keep an opened mind and experiment. Models and celebrities are always seen in street style photos going for comfy and ill- fitted rather than body-tight. Seen it in Rihanna, Claudia Schiffer or Miranda Kerr who loves the oversized cardigans and coats.

Sure it may take a while to see Kim Kardashian ditch her fitted outfits, but one can hope right? And if this style may not be your cup of tea – remember you can still rock it by keeping in mind a few tips: pair anything oversized with something tight; use a belt; and accessorize to jazz it up and make it feminine!

Fall is about letting go, braking rules and choosing big over small. Could it be that women have had too much of body fitted clothes? Maybe fashion is going for comfy this time. Or could it be that we are finally witnessing a fashion revolution: the decay of size zero?

Spotlight on Tieks: Fashionable, full-time flats that fold

Get to know—

Tieks are made from 100% premium, soft, top-grain Italian leather. The upper of each pair of Tieks comes from a single piece of leather, and is designed to wrap around the foot for a slimming and elongated look. All of Tieks high-end leathers are custom made in Italy. Accenting each pair is the signature blue stripe and rubber patches. The back is cushioned rather than elastic to ensure each pair fits comfortably and is not too tight on your heel.

Celebrities are all over Tieks as you might imagine. Celebs like Oprah Winfrey for good reason. For every Facebook “like”, Tieks give $1 to Kiva. Kiva then loans the money to women entrepreneurs who don’t have access to traditional banking systems.Kiva is the world’s first online lending platform connecting online lenders to entrepreneurs.

The non-skid rubber patches and cushioned instep assure comfort with each step, so you can wear your Tieks all day, every day. The thick padding of the space foam cushion ensures a safe and comfortable heel strike.

Beauty is in the details—

Each pair of Tieks comes with a compact pouch to compress your folded Tieks when they are in your purse, and comes with a reusable tote for your heels and pant clips for pinning up your heel-length pants. When it comes to high-end ballet flats that double as fully portable shoes, Tieks have no comparison. The brown leather outsole on each pair of Tieks is treated and coated to be flexible, and yet more durable and sturdy than regular full-grain leathers.

So whether on your feet or in your purse, Tieks are designed to add flexibility to your lifestyle by ensuring comfort. The foldable split-sole design is compact and lightweight, making it easy to bring your Tieks with you anywhere when you are in heels. When you need to take off your heels, Tieks provide comfort without compromising your style.

Style Icon: Alexa Chung

Style Icon: Alexa Chung
by Dana Cristina

It a time of what seems like fashion confusion and an obvious lack of concrete direction in regards to personal style, there are a few women out there worth paying attention to. And Alexa Chung is one of them.  With her regular London girl style, Alexa has made a name for herself in the fashion industry starting as a teen model, then going into television (as a presenter) to now hosting the 24 Hour Catwalk Show in on Lifetime channel. She is also contributing editor for British Vogue, journalist for the Independent, and a portfolio that has once-in-a-lifetime-chance interviews with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, and a never-ending list of all the fashion’s who’s who.  And she’s managed to accomplish all of this by the age of 28.

Though she may strike as perhaps a bit too fragile with her extremely petite frame – her huge green eyes, rebellious dark bangs and incredible charisma sure make up for it. She’s quite often seen running errands or grabbing coffee on her way to work in the most simple and tasteful outfits. The truth is she blends in very well with the London crowd and sticks to the British fashion trends perhaps a bit unconsciously: trench coats, Peter Pan collars wore on everything – from sparkling tops (that she dresses in on cloudy mornings) to wearing casual T-shirts on the red carpet.

With an eclectic yet simple style, she is often seen in sneakers to sophisticated designer stilettos. She dons high wasted full mini skirts with girly tops and jackets or blazers. With her staple London girl go-to outfit: denim cut-offs, black leggings, flat pumps or ankle boots, girly top and coat – she is always keeping it simple. Today she seems to be more of a luxury / glam girl in feminine tops and vintage denim cut-offs, or a sparkling, floral printed mini skirt with washed out vintage T-shirts. Alexa Chung’s style in a nutshell is casual, feminine, classic, sophisticated and simple. She’s a young rebellious trendsetter and all in the most exquisite moderation and sweet simplicity you would imagine her to be.

I’m Kellie, I’m a new mom from Boston, MA.

What do you blog about?
[I blog about] Everything! From baby obsessions to design inspirations, to yummy morsels, to DIY projects, to current fashion must haves, ..I would say that my blog is overall a lifestyle blog.

“Creativity inspires me as I am inspired by anything or anyone around me who is creative. The two people who inspire me most is my 1 year old daughter, Zoey and my husband.”

What inspired you to start your blog, what is your current inspiration?
Creativity inspires me as I am inspired by anything or anyone around me who is creative. The two people who inspire me most is my 1 year old daughter, Zoey and my husband, who is extremely talented himself! He is the one who actually taught me how to garden, cook (authentic Vietnamese food), work the camera, and gave me my first few lessons in graphic design just to name a few things. This is all too funny because he is in a completely different line of work.

“Since having my daughter, Zoey, the course of my life changed and now I’m more in tuned with my creative side.”

Why do you blog, what keeps you going?
Blogging is my creative outlet. I love to create…whether it’s a meal, a DIY project, or an art print, I just enjoy being stimulated creatively and hopefully inspire my readers to do the same.

My motto for Le Zoe Scribble is art for all! Whether you are a beauty junkie, coffee addict, free spirit, tea lover, hopelessly in love, or currently have baby fever – there’s an art print perfect for all your healthy obsessions. Spotlight: London #Fashion Blogger, Dana Cristina

London fashion blogger, Dana Cristina Malaescu, The Fashion Tag, is a fierce fashion and beauty blogger whose love for London street style and celeb styles is obvious as you peruse through her blog. Recently, Dana Cristina sat down to have a chat with BloggersMag. We are elated to introduce you to her. She has a great passion for writing, blogging and fashion. It took a while to find her voice in the fashion blogging scene but she stayed true to herself and what she loves, and it definitely comes across in her blog. So BloggersMag™ fans meet Dana Cristina.

What is your blog about?

I blog about all things fashion that inspire me, especially things that makes me feel a certain way, or that I simply feel the need to tell others about. I blog about fashion trends, catwalk shows, celebrities, red carpet events, style icons, street style, haute couture, designers, models, a favorite accessories. The world of fashion is about being creative, it’s limitless, it’s immense, beautiful, eccentric, daring and new – so I try to not set any boundaries as to what I blog about fashion-wise.

Where can fans find your blog?

I blog at The Fashion Tag, it’s my world of fashion, where I strive to inspire, share trend updates, talk about celeb style icon or the latest fashion event.

Tell us what inspires you?

My fashion journalism teacher (from London College of Fashion) used to say to always pay attention to all things and people surrounding us in every second of our lives because they are all sources of inspiration. I like that advice a lot. As a fashion journalist, I think it’s important to keep an open eye, mind and heart on everything and everyone. From the everyday woman, to films, celebs, to music, I find inspiration from all over. The best part about inspiration is that there are no rules. I regard fashion as a way of life & self-expression so no rules should ever limit our creative minds.

“The most inspiring things to me are: the streets – I could spend hours watching people pass me and guess their life stories behind their style; the fashion shows & reading lots of fashion blogs.”

What are some of your favorite brands?

Some of my favorite brands are D&G, Christian Louboutin, H&M and TopShop, so most of my readers will notice most of my articles are on these brands.

Why do you blog?

The most important thing in life is to do something you love. Blogging, for me is the perfect embodiment of the two things I love: writing & fashion. Blogging gives me the opportunity to express myself, to put into writing and photos all that I gather from the streets, the shows I watch, and events. I have always loved to write ever since I can remember. And I’ve always had such a soft spot for fashion… so it was a matter of time I guess until these two loves came together into a blog. My work in editorial leaves me little time to write about what I love – so blogging is a way to keep myself up to date, ahead of my game and not get rusty with my writing.

When did you start blogging?

To be honest I was a bit frightened about starting to blog. It can be quite a scary thing if you just think about the process: write something/create something close to your heart and then just throw it out there. You ask yourself are friends going to like it? Are strangers going to notice it? Are they going to judge it, dismiss it? Embrace it? The process is a bit self-confrontational while exercising your self-confidence. I’ve been blogging under a pseudonym for over 2 years just to test myself and keep a low profile while keeping a job not related to fashion. A while ago, I decided to give my 100% to become an editor in fashion. So I changed my job and 8 months ago decided to take blogging seriously. That means 2-3 posts a week covering fashion trends, style icons, events, fashion shows, writing under my own name, promoting myself through Facebook and Twitter. And I’m loving it. Best thing I ever did. I feel complete, fulfilled and feel like I’m on the right track.

“The most important thing is to know who you are, what you are good at, what you want to do and go out there and get it”

Do you have any fashion, blogging or style tips for fans?

It’s a bit tricky to give advice and tips of any kind. It’s a little bit of pressure and a lot of responsibility :).I think it’s great to be original and a bit rebelliousness so stay true to yourself is what I’d say. The most important thing is to know who you are, what you are good at, what you want to do and go out there and get it! Regarding blogging – just do it. Write about anything you love or hate. Don’t waste time thinking about what others may say, or what you may feel obliged to write about. Surrender to your inspirations and ideas and just put them out there. They don’t have to be perfect, great or new… they are just yours and that’s all that matters. And remember that writing is a process at which the writers get better in time. Practice makes perfect. Also read a lot, as it helps you, as a writer to have a continuously enriching vocabulary.

Fashion & style tips: experiment and be care-free. If you like to keep it simple or you are not what they call a ‘fashionista’ just remember one thing: the devil is in the details. Keep the outfit simple but jazz up your look with funky details: accessories, nails, shoes… Be yourself and have fun with it.

Do you have any ideas for bloggers on how to get started?

Pick up a great name for your blog, a platform that suits you best, create a Facebook page and Twitter account, read lots of other blogs and online publications and just start writing. Remember that in fashion & beauty, visuals esthetics are quite important, so use lots of clear photos, or upload your own videos, tutorials whatever. Also make friends with other bloggers, help yourselves out, be present on lots of online publications with ‘likes’ and comments that are honest and supportive.

“The most important thing is to know who you are, what you are good at, what you want to do and go out there and get it! Regarding blogging – just do it.”

Remember to keep your writing short, people don’t have time, or don’t want to spend it reading long posts; keep it under 500 words.  Try to have strong beginnings, quirky, interesting writing and if you want to have longer posts just make sure you interject photos to keep it easier and more interactive. Just have fun, be friendly and open-minded.

Meet #Fashion Bloggers, Carcia & Chantell ‘Telly’ Campbell

Fashion bloggers, Carcia and Chantell (‘Telly’) Campbell of popular Toronto fashion blog, ItsMusicFashionLife.com, take some time out of their very busy, stylish lives to dish about fashion, style icons inspirations, and blogging with BloggersMag™. The sisters started blogging serious just a year ago and now have contributors on their popular blog. They have been blogging success in the competitive world of fashion blogging appearing in local press and have been featured on many online sites and blogs, including HuffPost Canada Style. We wanted to know how they got started, why they do what they do, and get some inside fashion, blogging and style tips.

Blogging tips,:“Personality really is everything and your readers will come back repeatedly to see that. Also, write about what you love. It makes for better content!”

What are your names, where are you from?

Carcia Campbell & Chantell ‘Telly’ Campbell, yes we are sisters! We are from Toronto, Ontario Canada.

What do you blog about?

We blog about Fashion, Music and Pop Culture. We feel each element compliments each other and we have always connected the three. We love to show our readers fashion icons and pop culture icons from the past that influence our style. We have a few regular features where we show you how to take on a style icon’s style and be inspired by them. We also cover events within the Fashion & Music and arts community, because we love to support them and in a way, they inspire us. We usually say, we blog about what we know and like.

Do you blog at home or on the go?

We have an office in our house. Depending on our mood, we can blog from our laptops in the kitchen or even in front of the television. If we see an idea while driving around or visiting a store, we take it down, so technically we blog anywhere as long as we have a notebook or phone to take notes.

Fashion tips: “…Make it interesting and be fashionably adventurous!”

Why do you blog and how did you get started?

For us, blogging started as an online journal, but once we saw people actually started checking out the blog and responding, we made the decision to share more about other things and not just ourselves. We both wanted a platform for us to share our thoughts. [Since] Carcia is a journalist by trade and Telly is a fashion designer by trade, we figured we could still express that side of us on ItsMusicFashionLife.com.

When did you start blogging?

We started blogging (seriously) July of 2011

Style tip: “try purchasing one amazing, head-turning statement jewelry piece.”

Do you have any tips—any fashion, blogging or style for our readers?

Fashion tips, we believe everyone should try to step out of their box when it comes to style. You can look amazing at any budget so try accessories and new colors! We can get away with color now, so why not try it. Our motto is Stilettos & Rock n Roll! Make it interesting and be fashionably adventurous! (Another saying we always use at ItsMusicFashionLife.com).

Blogging tips, don’t try to imitate another bloggers success. What makes a blogger successful is their ability to be themselves and show that through their online publication. Personality really is everything and your readers will come back repeatedly to see that. Also, write about what you love. It makes for better content!

Style tip, try purchasing one amazing, head-turning statement jewelry piece. It can save your life, well, fashion styling life anyway ;)
